First, the wax is edible food-grade wax. It is non-toxic and approved for human consumption.

Second, scraping with a knife certainly won't get it all.

Third, washing with water or any number of other things like vinegar and lemon juice will not remove any wax.

The only solution I've seen so far is to get a commercial product specifically designed to remove the wax. There are a number of natural non-toxic products for this purpose.

I heard you can use baking soda, vinegar or lemon with some other stuff to wash the fruits before eating. I haven't try it yet to know if using a knife would do a better job.

I remember my Dad showing this to me when I was a kid - I used to peel the skin of most fruits. Now I don't. I just wash, rub dry as best I can and crunch right into it LOL... Maybe this is why I eat more fruits that need the skin to be peeled off rather than fruits that have edible skins

there is this machine called Okamizu selling in certain pharmacies. claims to get rid of pesticides, steroids injected into meat and etc. my family has been using it and i think it's pretty okay. you can see muddy substance coming out from prawns and seafood as the ozone removes the toxins from your food.
