Review and Thoughts: The New Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and Cream-Melt

by xin on October 12, 2011

More than a month ago, I have shared the news of the new range of Clarins HydraQuench and the Moisture Replenisher facial treatment with you.

Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and Cream-Melt

p/s: The serum in this picture is only a 15ml size, a full size would be a 30ml.

After using Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and Cream-Melt for more than a month, time to share some thoughts with you.

For this new range, they have sort of reformulated it to suit Asian skins, and generally all the textures have been lightened.

HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase – RM 200/30ml

Being repackaged as a round bottle now instead of the old flat bottle, it also looks more elegant with the cap in gold.

The older version of serum.

For a start, I want to tell you that, I really really liked the older version of the Bi-Phase serum because it was really thick and moisturizing, especially for times when my skin needed the SOS boost.

The current version of serum.

Although it is ‘almost the same’ like the previous version, however, I found it to be very different on my skin. It is runnier and lighter. The consistency is enough for my night routine, however, it is too light for me for day use πŸ™ Yes, I usually slap more stuff on the face during the day compared to night. It does not break me out, and works better for me at night.

HydraQuench Cream-Melt–RM 180/50ml

Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Melt in Jar

Housed in a light blue frosted glass jar, I love the sight of it on my dresser! πŸ˜€

However, to reduce the level of contamination, I prefer to depot any cream in jar to a smaller jar also for convenience. And when in a hurry, you won’t risk pushing it off your dresser.

Cream-Melt is supposedly the ‘thicker’ version, however, it sinks in my skin faster than the Cream-Gel!

And I love the fact that it smells subtly lovely and soothing especially when it’s used at night.

The cream feels really soft and easy to spread, it doesn’t literally melt, but it feels good on my skin πŸ˜‰

On the weekends, I use this alone as my day moisturizer before sunscreen, it has not clogged my pores or broken me out.

A 50ml jar can easily last you for about 3 months for daily use since you don’t need to use a lot to spread it.

Overall Thoughts:

I rather like the cream-melt and I have no major complaints about the new range, however, I really wish the serum were much thicker πŸ™

For some of you who disliked the scent of the previous generation, it’s a good news for you that the scent has lightened. It’s also a bonus that they have brought down the price! YEAY for Clarins πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the review. I haven’t tried Clarins products before… maybe I’ll just go ahead and try this when I finished my Chanel Hydramax!

I would love to try the Cream-Melt, but upon seeing the word “alcohol” in the ingredients list I shrank back. Will try to get my hands on a sample, though! πŸ˜› I loved the old formula of it haha.
