Cheap deals Yeay or Nay – Review: Jari Spa at Solaris Dutamas Kuala Lumpur

by xin on March 19, 2011

If you are a frequent Internet user, I am sure you have come across many sites that sell all these group coupons, and most of them are really a steal! (it may seem that way)

Cheap Deal

More than a month ago, I bought a what seemed like a steal.

Treat your body to a much-deserved top-to-toe Royal Spa Treatment consisting of a Foot Bath, Herbal Steam, Body Massage, Javanese Lulur, Whitening Mask and Milk Bath.

Now, tell me you are not excited to read the description?

Fast forward to my appointment, since ParisB has written about her experience, so I was careful not to be late for my appointment. In the afternoon, they had called me earlier to check if I could reschedule my appointment from 5pm to 6pm. As reluctant as I was, I had to agree.

Solaris Dutamas Building

The  Jari Spa is located at the new Solaris Dutamas. But do not be confused with the Solaris Mont Kiara as this is slightly further.

Directions to Jari Spa is at the end of this post.

Jari Spa Solaris Dutamas

Jari Spa is located on the first floor. Turn right if you go up by escalator.

Jari Spa Receptionist Area

The receptionist area has only a bench for you to wait.

Jari Spa Massage Room

Our treatment room. I made an appointment for couple room, and they gave me a room WITHOUT the jacuzzi attached.

I was told that supposed-to-be-mine room was occupied! Bummer!

There were disposable bra and panties and also a shower cap for you to use. And there was also a bathrobe on the bed which I put on while soaking my feet on the bench.

Foot bath was only a quick one and it would be better if the water was warmer.

After the foot bath was the massage session.

When I inquired about my missing herbal bath, the masseur casually said that: “oh, it doesn’t mean you get everything on the voucher”. That really made me go WTF. Then when I pursued further, she twisted story to:” oh, you should have come earlier”. I was so puzzled as I was told to come an hour later. Now, what the heck is this? Then, she continued: Just a 10-min session anyway for you to detox.

You be the judge.

Massage oil was used but somehow there was just no kick to the massage! I have had quite a fair share of massage visits and I must say I wasn’t so impressed. The techniques the masseur used were so different from my Bali spa too. Tired muscles and knots were not relieved.

My hubby, on the other hand, had better experience with the other masseur.

Nightmare was when my head was massaged. Oh god! For a moment I felt like an old football being rubbed and squished repeatedly! Goodness!!!

After the horrific head massage was the body scrub. I was given ‘coffee’ scrub which I couldn’t tell was coffee at all, and it stung my skin! When she rubbed the scrub off me, she rubbed my neck/chest so hard I almost couldn’t breathe!

And the body mask was nothing more fantastic than the fact that it was cooling.

Jari Spa Corridoor

After some 30 minutes of wait time, finally it was the time to wash it off. And I had to put on the robe and walked from the first room to the end across the corridor!

Jari Spa Massage Room with Jacuzzi

Finally I had a decent bath to rub off the stuff on my skin. The jacuzzi was probably the best thing of the package.

Unfortunately, the heater was working TOO well and there was no cool water! I was told later that the machine is problematic already. O_o

Anyway I briefly washed and changed back to my clothing.

Conclusion? RM59 is probably all it’s worth.

This deal: NAY!

Areas of improvement:

  • Communicate with the customer. How can you just skip one of the treatment just because it is only 10-min or someone occupies the room? Without even informing?
  • Retraining for certain masseur is needed. We are not washrags.
  • Customers might feel awkward to walk to another room for bath especially if the other male customers are present in the mani-pedi hall.
  • Better smelling scrubs, or at least scrub that doesn’t sting.

Credit where it’s due: Environment is actually quite nice.

Directions to Jari Spa from B6 parking:

Nearest Parking to Jari Spa

If you can’t find parking for block A, look for B6 parking like this and the lift is right behind this pillar.

Solaris Dutamas

Get down at LG and then cross the road.

Then go straight up to the escalator and turn right.

Jari Spa is located above Western Cuisine.

Jari Spa Address:
A2-U1-5, Solaris Dutamas, No. 1 Jalan Dutamas 1, 50480 Kuala Lumpur
Tel: 03-6205 3624
www.jarispa.com

Will I return for another visit at full price or discounted? I really doubt so.

More:
ParisB’s review of Jari Spa.

Note: Jari Spa, on their Facebook page proclaims that we did not get the full treatment because we were late for our appointment. I  was early for her appointment but yet treatment was shortened. Our complaints are not solely on not receiving the full treatment, but also for a poorly executed massage and for making us walk around clad in nothing but a bathrobe in a mixed gender spa. For the record, I have not been contacted by Jari Spa for any clarification.

Wahliaoeh… they are SO INEFFICIENT! And you also didn’t get that herbal steam, and you’re early. I believe we ended up with the same masseuse – the one that thinks everyone is a washrag. They are such a ridiculous set up I’m never going back. Probably have to PAY ME the next time I go haha!

eeeyah!!!! Now I feel scared :( And I’m very much afraid of massages to begin with. What if I get the horrible masseuse? OMG!!!! T_T Can I sell the coupons? Or shall I brave myself? I was so looking forward to it. Did you get the name of your masseuse?

try it! i didnt get the name of my masseuse but she is quite sweet looking but laughs sadistically at inappropriate times. the better one is the prettiest of the lot, shoulder length hair and slender.

I had quite a good experience there.. everything was good. I have to agree the Bali massage was not like Bali massage though executed at the points that usual Bali massage does.. I’ve done in Malaysia and in Bali .. but here the Bali massage was not so good.

However, the girl who attended to me was very friendly and made me comfortable. And after the treatment, sipping the ginger tea at the relaxation room was definitely a plus point. the mask was very moisturising too.. but I was scrubbed a bit roughly by the girl too. she said it was too slough away the deadcells..hm.

Overall, if I wanted some pampering for RM59, I would go again, but I really like my Bali massage to be done properly, so I think I’ll stick to the one I usually go to.

I also bought the same Jari Spa deal and was sooo excited to try it but then after I came across this review and also the other one by ParisB I became really worried that I might end up regretting this experience. But, i still went with an open mind even though my expectation level had gone waaaaay down and I actually ended up really enjoying this treatment. They called me a day before to confirm my appointment which was a nice surprise. I always take this as a good sign because I have shown up at a different spa before with an appointment and they said it wasn’t in their calendar and asked me to come back another day. WTF! =p Anyway, my masseuse at Jari Spa was very friendly and did a good job with the massage. The body scrub and mask were refreshing and (surprise, surprise!) they didn’t skip the herbal bath. The jacuzzi at the end was really nice but unfortunately when I wanted to shower afterwards the hot water wasn’t working so I ended up having a cold shower and was freezing in the airconditioned room! That was the only complaint I would have. Otherwise I have to admit everything was actually good and I would go back if they had another offer. I wouldn’t pay the full price for this place though. Still, overall it was a good experience. Either some of you were just very unlucky or the spa has improved their service after all those bad reviews.

I just finished getting my herbal ball massage deal at jari spa and I am a very satisfied customer. My bf enjoyed it as well. Although i’d to admit that i wouldnt pay full price for it. Best part is, the lady at reception didn’t try to talk us into purchasing their packages. Just gave us some brochures for reference. I will definitely frequent this place again if there are more deals like this in the future. Otherwise, the prices are just too steep.

Hi there, I would definitely recommend the spa located next to 7-11 one level down. I think much about the uncle who does the foot reflexology, but the traditional massage is one of the best I have ever encountered. There are, of course, all treatments. People there are friendly and very professional. I highly recommended it: http://astanaspa.com/

Sorry, I meant to say… I don’t think much about the reflexology services, but I believe the spa experience is great and worth every sen paid. Thanks for the review. I was curious when I chance upon it yesterday.
