Me, who is a big fan of plum, have this very often. But, i also find that the wax on the fruit is rather disturbing.
See? On the left is the before, and on the right I have one that has been de-waxed.
Just use a knife to scrap the wax, and inspect your knife. Now, this is scary right?
So, do you de-wax your apple or whatever fruit that you eat with the skin on? I wonder what happens when we have too much wax in our body…maybe our body can be preserved for years? Together with all the chemicals I have in my body, I think my body will not decompose so soon..when I say byebye to this world.

It could be edible wax
ewww!
im scared now.
im more of a peach fan though.
never knew about this.
at most also wash with veggie soap
Wow ! never thought about de waxing fruits, I just wash them throughly, but gosh, that is gross! thanks for the post 🙂
I think apples has a lot of wax on it too!! It makes the fruit look fresh longer. So like it might look fresh on the outside, but be pretty rotten on the inside. Just beware beware!!
I de-wax them. Usually will let them soak into water for half and hour. Then rub against the skin and only consume it.
Oh wow… that;s scary, I always make sure I wash the fruit very thorougly before eating… but I guess I’ll start scraping it now!!
I don’t do this…usually I remove the skin of those that can be removed. The wax is a disturbing sight!
I never thought of that, it’s gross. I usually just remove the skin.
Joy: hmmm im clueless about edible wax, just like those on instant noodles?
LyNn: washing fruits with vege soap somehow makes me paranoid too!
Nikki: yeah i usually just washed, but we nv know how thorough is thorough!
lilaznktty: thanks for the reminder! i cant stand eating apple with skin on.
Traclyn Yeoh: wow u soaked for so long!
Lisa: scraping is the way to go!
sesame: yeah i usually just remove skin, but in this case, its awful to remove the skin esp if the fruit is soft
gio: yeah the wax is gross, i have no idea how much i have it stored in my body already
🙂 I do de-wax my fruits before consumption. Normally i will soak my fruits in salt water or toothpaste water for a few mins, rub gently and wash them with water.
The wax is edible but I usually remove the skin before eating. Another reason to eat local fruits instead!
Hello, it’s my first visit here, seems like I found a good place to read about skin care reviews =)
there is this machine called Okamizu selling in certain pharmacies. claims to get rid of pesticides, steroids injected into meat and etc. my family has been using it and i think it’s pretty okay. you can see muddy substance coming out from prawns and seafood as the ozone removes the toxins from your food.
I remember my Dad showing this to me when I was a kid – I used to peel the skin of most fruits. Now I don’t. I just wash, rub dry as best I can and crunch right into it LOL… Maybe this is why I eat more fruits that need the skin to be peeled off rather than fruits that have edible skins
SLT: does toothpaste do a good cleaning job? LOL. i cant imagine eating toothpaste tho. hehehe
Eli: yeah local fruits mostly have to take out the skin
Penny: thanks 🙂 and enjoy reading!
yahui: oh..is it expensive? but ewwww i think i have to think differently when i see mud coming out from my prawns or fish.
ParisB: yeah sometimes i couldnt give a damn and will just eat it anyway. we are not going to die becoz of the ONE single fruit right…hehehe
I heard you can use baking soda, vinegar or lemon with some other stuff to wash the fruits before eating. I haven’t try it yet to know if using a knife would do a better job.
First, the wax is edible food-grade wax. It is non-toxic and approved for human consumption.
Second, scraping with a knife certainly won’t get it all.
Third, washing with water or any number of other things like vinegar and lemon juice will not remove any wax.
The only solution I’ve seen so far is to get a commercial product specifically designed to remove the wax. There are a number of natural non-toxic products for this purpose.
@spiralofhope: Do you have any article show that edible food-grade wax doesn’t have any side effect to our human body. I am wonder about this.
