Every Girl Needs a Sunscreen…or More!

Under the crazy hot sun of Malaysia, have you been wearing enough sun screen?

Ever since I discovered the crazy brown spots underneath my skin, I have been really, really paranoid! I was even told that I never wore sun screen in my life! Good Lord! How’s it even possible?

Other than making sure I apply enough sun screen, I have another powder sunblock for double protection, but that will be another post ;)

1. Obagi Nu-Derm Sun Shield SPF 50

Introducing – My current sun warriors!

Obagi Nu-Derm Sun Shield SPF 50, Medicated Sekkisei SPF 50 PA+++ and Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense

Obagi Nu-Derm Sun Shield SPF 50 is the first product that I have ever tried from Obagi. As recommended by a doctor, apparently it is one of the best medical grade sun screen in the market.

True enough, it’s very light and non-greasy. However, also due to this fact, I find it to be too drying for my dry skin. My skin feels uncomfortable after a while as it feels really taut. I tried using it, but I really can’t love it as much as I thought I would.

*Contains Zinc-Oxide.

It doesn’t leave any white cast, and it has no scent at all.

It’s not readily available in the market, but it is still possible to purchase it from Strawberrynet.

2. Medicated Sekkisei SPF 50 PA+++

Medicated Sekkisei SPF 50

When I was at the Hong Kong airport with some balance of HKD on hand, I decided to spend all of my balance to get a bottle of Kose sun screen, after all, I have been wanting to try this for ages!

Compared to the local counter price, it is about RM20 cheaper, so it is a score ;)

It comes in 2 version: One is light while the other is moisturizing. I pick up the moisturizing one to avoid the taut skin after sun screen application.

As the same with most of the Japanese sunscreens, the texture feels more like a lotion than a cream.  It’s quite runny yet moisturizing at the same time. It leaves no white cast and has a light scent.

It’s the easiest to spread among the 3.

However, if you have oily skin, I wouldn’t recommend this to you.

3. Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense

Kiehls Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50+++

I was also given a tube of Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense for review, and I was told that this is one of the most-love products by the customers!

Even though it’s cream-based, it’s non-greasy and not too drying either.  It’s easy to spread, and leaves no white cast.

I put it to a sun-test while I was in Hong Kong for a week. Even with the hot sun, I didn’t turn any darker ;)

It feels rather comfortable on my face without being too drying or too oily.

The ingredient list.

This is currently my weekend sun screen when I know I have the chance to be exposed to the sun the most ;)

So far, I have not broken from these 3, not suffered from congested pores.

 Conclusion:

For your convenience, I have compiled it into a table for you ;) If you are looking for a sunblock, hope it helps!

Kiehl’s was a pleasant surprise as I expected a heavier thick cream. It’s quite lightweight and is my current fave sunscreen. I spent a whole day running around under the sun during a team building event and didn’t get darker or sunburnt. Very good stuff!

thank you for the easy to read table. Just run out of sunblock and with such good comments re Kiehls, I will go try a sachet sample first.
