Nail Experiment: Failed Water Marble Nail Art

by xin on November 16, 2009

Happy Monday girls! 😀

Some months ago, I read an article in the nail magazine, which was about creating water marble nail art. Kept that in mind, and tried out myself. But it did not turn out good at all!

Items that I used: 2 nail colors, a container with warm water, tooth pick, and lip balm for applying around finger to avoid staining the nail color.

Drop 2-3 drops from each color, and use toothpick to create some motif in the water.

The, dip your finger into the water. You have to be fast in this as you can see the top layer of the water has started to form a jelly-layer.

Pull out immediately and it is done!

Uh.. not very even. And I think the colors are too thick.

The worst part is, the back of the nail is full of polish! Gosh.

You can clean the inside of your nail later with the toothpick if you want to keep the color.

I decided to just wipe it off first…since.. it was bad.

Anyone has heard of/tried this method before?

Please enlighten me.

You need to leave your nail in the water while removing the excess polish on the surface of the water with a toothpick or skewer or something. When you pulled your finger out after dipping, it pulled all that other polish from the surface of the water onto your nail.

you can go to “you tube” type “marble nail art” and see some videos. The key is to use shades that are very different. very light and very dark to see the design. also use a tape around the nail so that you won’t have to clean up so much. I will try out and put in my blog and tell u the result of my experiment

If i knew how to leave a photo, i would, lol… practice makes perfect. My first try wasn’t great either, but I love doing it now. But you definitely need a thinner polish, preferably with a lot of pigment.

You have to use ROOM TEMPERATUE water or it completely fails. Also if you don’t want polish all around your skin you can use some scotch tape before entering your fingers into the water.

Also when dipping your finger into the water you don’t remove it fast. You use a toothpick and take the remaining nail polish thats flating on the water around your nail before completely removing your finger from the water.

The easiest way to achieve this look is as follows.

Room temp water works best. I suggest prepping your nails ahead of time. Use a base color or one that’s in your design. Then tape off around your nail to keep from getting messy.

When you are dropping in your colors work quickly. If they’re not spreading well try giving the glass or bowl a little jiggle. Then. when dipping your nail in place your finger at a 90 degree angle to the design and go down. Do not dip your finger straight in. keep your finger in and get the rest of the polish skin off the top. remove your finger and the tape. Voila!

I apologize. Hold your nail parallel to the top of the water. not 90 degrees.
