NOTD: Steal The Maquillage Nails (Cleo July)

by xin on July 8, 2009

Yeah i know most of us are inspired by the model look on the printed ad, have you ever paid attention to the nails?

mag1

Well I recently had, and was definitely inspired by the one in Shiseido Maquillage ad in the July Cleo magazine.

mag3

The challenge.

Do  bear in mind that, great looking nail paint could be cheap and easily done at home too!

Today, I am going to show you how to recreate the look with simple tools and only 20 mins needed!

You will need:

mag2

A metallic blue, a black polish, a glitter polish with fine paint tip, base and top coat.

Let’s start the challenge now!

mag4

1. Apply base coat, let dry, and paint a layer of metallic blue on the nails, let dry.

mag5

Here. I tested the OPI quick dry. Just drip a drop onto your nails and let dry! It actually dries up pretty fast, it leaves some sort of tiny oil coating on nail. But i think it is a waste to use it like this since every drop is precious. So, i will only use this when I have to paint a few layers of a single color. 😀

mag6

2. Paint a french tip of black on the nails. Try not to over-paint the black tip though, but if you have, you can just repaint it with the metallic blue, then paint the tip again. Don’t worry if it is not perfect, you can always rescue it later. Let dry.

mag7

How it looks like when it is done. As you can see, the black tips are actually crooked. But, worry not.

mag8

3. Now, use the glitter nail polish, and create a line between the black and the metallic blue. Let dry.

Now, you see why your french tips don’t have to be perfect? 😀 One thing good about the glitter polish is : the mistake won’t look obvious.

4. Wait for a while for the glitter to dry completely. Paint your top coat to protect your nail art.

mag9

Now, everything is done within 20 mins, and you have the model nails!!!

Hope you enjoy this tutorial. 🙂

if you got watch the likes of ANTM or Project Runway, you’ll see their nails and makeup are all done in a great rush! sometimes right before the photoshooots! so yeah, nail art isn’t hard. give in lots of creativity and effort! 😀 good job dear~ i noticed some of the models have very short nails. it’s in style already? 😀

Love the nails, you did a great job!

I always look at the model’s makeup, but I never notice the nails. I need to start paying more attention to them.
