I am considered as a fairly fair person, and I am quite easy to get burnt. My friends don’t quite understand why am I so scared of the sun and I always seek shade whenever is possible.

Well, do you know why the fair skin is more prone to sun burn?

When our skin is exposed to the sun without adequate sun protection, the exposure will cause melanin, which is the pigment in the body that gives color to our skin, to rise to the surface of the skin. This pigment melanin works to protect our skin from the sun. Usually, people with light or fair skin will have less melanin while the darker skin have more melanin.

You see, the main role of melanin is to protectour skin from the sun, which is why the fair skin have less protection. This is also why the darker skin and lighter skin, need different type of sunblock, and the fair skin will have to apply more frequently than the dark skin to protect it!
