Beauty Saloon Detective: Various beauty saloon reviews

by xin on May 15, 2009

I, have always been a fan of beauty-saloon hopping, yeah i know it’s not that good, but i also prefer to try out different services from various saloons.

So, i have an idea: Why not compiled a list of beauty saloon reviews so the rest can have a rough idea about the price, the treatment and the service?

Therefore, whatever I am sharing here is based on my personal experience.

Right now I have:

1. Aster Spring KLCC
2. Sothys Pavilion
3. Skincode Kota Damansara
4. Airellis Kepong
5. First Lady Damansara Utama

1. Aster Spring KLCC

Aster Spring KLCC

The Environment: The place is great, spacious and comfy, being at KLCC.  It really will not fare less.

The Service:  Service is great, and the staff carefully explain each service to you, analyze your skin, and recommend services that suit you. Of course, they will usually try to persuade you to do few treatments at one go, it is all up to you though.  Some of the staff could be quite pushy.

The Price: I faintly remember that the most basic facial service starting at RM180 and above. Anyone remember please correct me.

The Products: I have had few Dermalogica products, the body products fare quite well, however i have not tried their skincare before other than pre-cleanse.

Extra:  There is an area for you to put on make up, and basic makeup, eg eyeshadows, lippi are supplied too.

2. Sothys Pavilion

sothys

The Environment: It is relaxing and soothing with the warm lighting and music,  the spacious part is only the loungue.

The Service: Needless to say, their service is great too!  And the beauticians are quite professional. I actually prefer their facial service to Aster Spring. Stuff are not pushy at all.

The Price:  For the most basic services, I think it starts from RM180 and above, please correct me if i am wrong too. I have tried their ginger and marmalade treatment and it was quite cool.

The Products: I have only tried their sunblock before and here is the review. I actually prefer their services more to products.

Extra: Hmm i am not sure if there is a makeup area or makeup provided.

3.  Skincode in Kota Damansara

skincode beauty saloon

The Environment: Quite spacious and comfy.

The Service: The beautician who attended me was too pushy and was told that the use of steamer will be charged differently. I have never thought of returning there ever. She was also not the gentlest beautician i have ever met.

The Price: The most basic service starting at RM150, and somehow i am not able to justify the price tag for a saloon located in that area!

Products: Have never tried before.

Extra: NIL

4.  Airellis Studio in Kepong

airellis

The Environment: Cozy and comfortable. Not as extravaganza as Sothys/Aster Spring.

The Service: The beauticians there are actually sisters,  and they are also quite cool and friendly. Can be pushy to sell products at time.  Their essential oil facial massage during the facial is awesome though! Really love it. And…i am caught there. I signed up a package. 🙁 My first package ever in my life.

The Price: Most basic facial, which also includes massages starting at RM129. First trial @ RM49. Facial rooms are exclusive, no sharing.

Products: Currently i am using whole range of products from Airellis and i think the price is alright and products are not bad. It is said to suit Asians’ skin.

Extra: Makeup area/makeup is provided too.

5. First Lady in Damasara Utama ( Uptown)

The Environment: Small and quite crampy due to the many staff and customers. Facial rooms are shared, only partitioned by curtains.

The Service: Brush is used through out the entire treatment, it is a brush made of bamboo. I find it too harsh on my skin and it feels like you are applying foundation vigorously! Some of the staff can be really hard-sell and pushy. Carrie is a nice lady there though.

The Price: Basic facial starting at RM120 and first trial @ RM38.

Products: Nothing really significant nor impressed me.

Extra: They have a member-get-member system, where when you bring friends there, you get discount cash vouchers for your subsequent treatment as stated on the voucher.

TO BE UPDATED as soon as I visit others.  I would like to visit some other saloons such as Kanebo, Cellnique too!
