Celebrate Mid-Autumn with Angry Birds Mooncake Festival

by xin on September 12, 2011

Happy Mooncake Festival everyone! If you are not celebrating, it is still nice to enjoy the full moon tonight.

cute

If you are a chinese born before the 80′s, I am sure you have had your fair share of playing the paper lanterns which catch fire so easily. I really miss those times when I had fun lighting the candles around the house, taking a night walk with lantern in hand and bumping into friends, and…burning the snails! Oops!

Unfortunately… I hardly have chance to see a snail now; and paper lanterns are going to be a history, kids are spoilt with electric lanterns, not only it’s lighted when powered on, lanterns now are built on wheels which you can play it like a remote control car!

Those were the days..technology is good but sometimes it just cannot take over the old-school. Please give yourself a pat on the back if you share my sentiments ;)

Enough of the old school thoughts, I am proud to show you my latest creation – Angry Birds Mooncake Festival!

dreamy

If you are a fan of Angry Birds, Mooncake Festival is the latest game stage launched about less than 2 weeks ago.

Angry Birds Mooncake Festival Tools

It’s a very colorful stage hence you need more different nail polishes.

Other than the bird and pig’s color, you are actually free to select your own base color based on your judgment.

Angry Birds Mooncake Festival Base Color

Do not forget the base coat for first layer, then choose your favorite base color.

And the base color is dried thoroughly, you can start to sketch the shape of the nail art.

I usually prefer to work onĀ  2 or more at the same time if they share the same color. I could save more time and maximize the usage of the paint as they dry up pretty fast. This is also a big advantage as you can complete it with the outline and details without long waiting time.

Angry Birds Mooncake Festival Red Bird

Presenting to you…my almost perfect bird!

Practice really makes perfect ;)

Angry Birds Mooncake Festival Nail Art

On my index finger is a rabbit, and on the middle, it is the pig with the traditional ‘vampire hat’.

You might not be able to tell..but on the ring finger is actually a lantern. LOL I got the base color wrong so had to draw a blue lantern.

And on the pinky, it is full moon! I added some glitters as the stars.

And a shot of the entire family. I can’t show you both hands because I had no 3rd hand to snap for me.

My achievement after this nail art and The Smurfs!

Happy Mooncake Festival!

Do you have any plans tonight?

I LOVE traditional paper lanterns that burn up every year! I also used to have one in a shape of a phoenix covered with glass paper. I’d be super careful with it and after the mooncake festival, we’ll keep it back nicely. One year, I burnt half of it. Dad repaired it for me by pasting more glass paper on it and it was good as new! :D I feel you. These days, I’m not sure anyone even walks around outside with lanterns anymore. “Its not safe” :(

LOL…what Paris said! I miss those old lanterns – they get more and more ‘fake’ each year…first came the plastic ones with lightbulbs…then they started making them in cartoon characters like Powerpuff Girls and Spongebob…after that came adding music and blinking lights…this year was the last straw for me though – one kid I saw had a plastic Hello Kitty one with music, blinking lights AND blowing bubbles out its mouth! >.<

oh, and mine back then used to be a rooster (my zodiac animal) – ended up having to repair it myself cos my bro conveniently pushed mine over after he had burnt a huge hole in his!

^5 for being ‘classic’! i love my milo tin lantern last time too, nothing could burn the tin down so it lasted quite long. >.< i really don't quite get the gadgety lanterns too, it's just…not tradition!
