As part of the Dior Grand Bal Holiday 2012 Makeup Collection, there are two 5-color eye shadow palettes, which are – Night Golds and Fairy Gold. Both are warm palettes while Fairy Gold looks slightly earth-toned to me.
This is the Night Golds palette with 2 rather warm tones. The glittery gold looks gritty in the picture, but in fact, it is not at all tacky as it looks.
The first shade is a frosty pearl-white, which can be used as a highlighter underneath the brows, or in the corner of eyes. It goes on smoothly and it’s quite pigmented!
The second shade is the glittery gold, and it actually feels very smooth and fine, not the chunky bits. However, I find that it works the best with finger, it refuses to stick on anything else.
The center shade is a deep brown with some sparkles, the color payoff is very well and it’s advisable to start light and build it up.
The fourth shade is a metallic gold that feels really soft and creamy. Application is really smooth. I use it as the main color for my lid.
And the last shade is a bronzy champagne brown, that can also be used as a base color.
Employing the technique of using eye pencil as a base color, the color is immediately intensified! Of course, you will need to smudge the base evenly to get the best effect.
I tried this technique on the eyes and it actually turns the gold palette into a khaki green shades!
Using the sponge tip in the palette, I highlighted the inner eye corner and under the brow.
This palette is really user friendly and it only took me about 10 minutes to complete both eyes!
My overall look and I really like the intensity of the colors and how it helps to make the eyes look bigger.
I wore this look to a wedding and received many compliments!
Wearing on lips: Dior ‘Glow’ lip gloss
This is my first attempt using the palette with pencil liner as base.
You can’t really tell from the photo, but it’s more obvious when I close my eyes, and I even skipped the eyeliner! 😉
Ah the beauty of priming eyes with eyeliner!
Overall, I think this palette can be very versatile with great pigmentation. During the day, you can use a lighter hand and if you need to transform at night, just reapplied the colors and use more of the darkest shade.
