Soft and Smooth: Clarins White Plus HP – Whitening Velvet Emulsion Review

by xin on May 9, 2012

A few months back, I was given a bottle of Clarins White Plus HP – Whitening Velvet Emulsion for review, it took me quite a while to post this up, it’s not because I don’t like it. I am just feeling a bit uncertain. Read on to find out why!

Clarins White Plus HP - Whitening Velvet Emulsion

With its incredibly soft, lightweight texture, this day and/or night moisturizer ensures bright, radiant, comfortable skin. Make-up is easier to apply and long-wearing.

Housed in a tall and slim glass bottle, I like it that it is easy to hold, and doesn’t take up much space. I usually store the tall bottles in a basket so I don’t knock them off accidentally.

Comes with a pump, it’s easy to control the amount that you need, and more hygienic.

Clarins White Plus HP - Whitening Velvet Emulsion Ingredients

The ingredients of the emulsion.

I have used a few of the variants before such as the Whitening Repairing Night Cream Review. The main ingredient of this emulsion is still sea lily. It has the ability to control the melanocytes and hence the pigmentation on skin.  Emulsion is actually a lighter version of moisturizer.

Since it has an SPF20, I use it on the day during the weekends. Why weekends you may ask?

Clarins White Plus HP - Whitening Velvet Emulsion Texture

Due to the light texture of this emulsion, I find that it’s not moisturizing enough for me when I have to stay under the strong air conditioner all day, especially when I have dry combination skin.

I like how it feels on skin the moment I apply on. It sinks into skin pretty quickly and absolutely no greasiness. This is also why I have a love-hate relationship with it.

It has a floral scent but disappears within minutes after your application.

This is now my weekend moisturizers now and so far I have not experienced any weird breakouts from it. It’s best to pair with the Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum to achieve the best result.

Conclusion:

I think those with combination or oily skin will enjoy this the most because it provides the enough moisture without the extra grease. However, for the dry skin, you might need to pair this with an intensive hydration serum to keep the dryness at bay.

I think the SPF version costs RM210. Sadly, I can’t really use this on my face because it tends to pill. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch. And you’re right, it’s not very moisturising however if you apply a serum or moisturiser before, it may work better for drier skin types. But the non-SPF version works fine and I quite like it.
