I don’t know if it’s just me…but I notice that most Asians like to leave the last piece of meat/leaf on the plate, out of courtesy? I have no idea.
So. one day when I was clearing my dresser, I found quite a couple of bottles of unfinished skincare. And yes, to my horror, I brought the dining habit to my skincare!
Mind you, it’s not that I don’t like them, I love them! But I just …can’t commit π
These are one of the transparent bottle I could show.
Some of products are too old or expired, so I had to discard them.

You have commitment phobia! π I have the same problem you do. Most of the time is because I’m halfway through, then I switch and then I forget that I had left behind until I do a clear out. Oops! BTW Been meaning to try that Ren Rose oil thing and I’m also about at the same level as your Kiehl’s serum. I feel myself wandering….

damn this commitment issue >< sometimes it's that i am trying something then i forget about whatever is left. and unfortunately my REN face oil isn't fresh anymore π not to waste it, I use it on my feet now

I would use up my skincare if I think it works for me. For products that I’m on the fence about, I tend to let them sit on my bathroom counter and use them once in a while. However, I do think, “Gosh when am I going to finish these? They never seem to die!!!” So if they are way too old, I would discard them. So my answer is yes and no?? π

Erm..i guess you are really on the fence about it. I have the same thought sometimes when products never seem to finish!

Unless a products breaks me out or really just doesn’t work for my skin, I will use it all, to the very last drop. Or if I for some reason I can’t, I will give it to a friend or family member who has the same skin type as mine.

good on ya gio! I usually don’t give used skincare unless it’s only been used a few times.
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do you use your skincare until the last drop?
I think it depends on the product. If it comes in a tube or bottle and I realise after a few uses that I’m not gonna use it much, then I like to give it to someone who will appreciate and use it more than I do. I always tell them how much product is left though so they can decide whether they want it or not. I’ve found that most of my friends love a freebie, even if it is used lol.

i agree. but usually toners/serum are generally more popular for acceptance than facial wash and moisturizers π
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do you use your skincare until the last drop?
For me, it depend on the products. If I don’t like the product or have aversion to it, I will just leave it there on the dressing table and use it once in the blue moon so that I won’t feel that guilty for wasting my money. Generally, that is the habit till it goes expired and I won’t feel so bad for discarding it ( At least it’s has expired).
If I like the products, then yes, I will use it till last drop. π But I will keep on checking at the bottle everyday as to why it takes forever to finish coz I set a rule for myself that I can only open another products once I have finished the old one.
LOL! I have to agree that it’s a pain to finish a product sometimes. I have learnt a trick – whatever that doesn’t work on face (serum/moisturizer), i use them as body lotion instead! and it will be used up very fast π
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do you use your skincare until the last drop?
Only if I love the product… if I don’t, it won’t even reach 3/4 full.
But I’ve had experiences with products I really love where I scraped every bit of cream left inside the bottle with a chopstick, lol.

I have not gone to that stage in a long time….i guess because i haven’t found one that i REALLY love;)

I do. I can’t stand it leaving a little bit inside.

Yes and no. If I really like a product I will use it up. If not, I will left it half empty, or not even half empty.
heh looks like it’s a common thing to not finish a product π i feel much better now!

I try to use everything up! I can usually never get the last bit out though. There’s always something stuck on the bottom.

if it’s serum then it’s easy, can try to screw open the bottle to get the last drop out! If it’s cream, can use a Q-tip to scrap the last bit out.
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do you use your skincare until the last drop?
I use everything unless it breaks me out. When there are leftovers, mom would scold us not to waste food. There are many unfortunate ones who are starving out there. I guess for skincare its the same. Can’t say the same about makeup tho!

respect that! have to agree that makeup never seems to finish
I’ll dig the last bit out, I know I’m weird… I’ll wipe the jar clean with my fingers if they can fit into it ; put the bottle upside down to let the remaining bits drip into an empty jar ; or even cut open the bottle if I can to get to the last bit. Doing that gave me a sense of “accomplishment” and that I didn’t waste a thing ..^_^. Plus, I like to do an autopsy on skincare bottles to find out how the mechanism works. After which if I can assemble it back and it is useful to reuse ( for instance vacuum bottle ), then I’ll clean it and keep…. Yes, I know I’m weird.
i did the upside down with something that i really loved once! can’t recall what product was it now. i have done autopsy on several vacuum bottle, but they never seem to dry properly!
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do you use your skincare until the last drop?
It depends. If I love it, I’ll use it all up but otherwise, chances of leaving it unfinished is quite common. Was clearing out my stuff and had to throw out a number of products.

I do finish up my face products and always made sure I have back ups of my favourite few products. For body products I take a long time to finish, but yea, I try to finish them before they expire. For face products that are expired or close to expiring and I’ve no interest to use them at all, I’ll slather on my arms and legs just not to waste money π
ditto on the slather on body part! I usually don’t store backups because i am not sure how long my passion is going to last.

i felt sooo related to this post.. yup,.. we sometime didnt finish our products mainly because we stop using them because of unfavourable.. or we tried new products…
but sometime, if the products too expensive, i will only use abit in smallest portion ever.. hoping that I could stretch the life spand… but end up rugi because of the product expire π

Hi Xin,
I use my skincare till the last drop. I just can’t bear to throw away something that’s not empty :p

haha! I thought I was the only one who had this habit. Whenever I reach that last few bits, I always refuse to use them because I’m afraid I will finish them??? Weird I know :p
Sadly, with a shelf of products to trial, many a time I use till about it’s about to finish and then I abandon it. It’s a wasteful habit I have to curb :-[

I’m not sure if it’s commitment issue here. You know how sometimes, you use skincare from Brand A. After some time, your skin don’t look as good anymore! The effects weren’t as good and so you switch to Brand B and it worked! For me, I only started to take care of my skin when I hit 30. Before that, I just wash my face and that’s it! No toner, no moisturizer. With the way I look now, I really have to credit my beautician and my oily complexion. It’s only when I’m 30 that I start to apply toner, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. The rest I’m rather consistent but not for sunscreen. I’m lazy. I purchased skincare from Lancome and it worked but after a few months, it became stagnant and I switched to Clarins and my skin improved! Now, it’s stagnant again. I’ve no idea which skincare to go to. With the switch to Clarins, I’m left with lots of Lancome products in my cabinet. One thing I continue is the Genifique mask – GREAT SHIT! I like it so much, I bought a year’s supply at 1 time! Ha ha…
