I know many have written about the perils of heels etc, but what am I going to share is based on a friend’s experience.
Through out my few years of working life, I had only worn heels daily (almost) for the first two jobs.
As I moved into my 3rd job, I started to carry a notebook on daily basis, and it was also when I couldn’t stand the long walk with notebook in heels anymore. I wasn’t good with walking in heels anyway.

Such beautiful heels.
As I have moved into a new department, I am now more exposed to mankind (or rather, people who really bother to dress up to work) , and there are a couple of ladies who are always in beautiful high-heels.
You know, it’s like a pressure to see beautiful heels standing next to you, and when I look like crap in flats, and short of course. As tempted as I was, I just couldn’t bring myself to wear high heels after learning my friend’s story:
Here is how it goes:
My friend, has always been a fan of heels for a good several years. Eventually, she started to suffer backaches, and more problems followed.
And one of the significant changes was the shape of toes as pictured.
Totally adapted to the shape of the heels.
This is not the worst.
Soon, she experienced excruciating back ache and had no choice but to consult the chinese physician/chiropractor.Β To her dismay, a fraction of her spine has misaligned, and gradually pressured her pelvic bone. And as a result, her uterus was also affected due to the pressure at pelvic bone.
It’s quite a serious problem (at least it seems like one to me).
There’s no immediate resolution for her and she had to ditch high heels for good, and also go on and off treatment.
So, do you wear heels on daily basis? Or have ditched the heels for good? Please share us your experience π

scary stuff!!! but it’s a dilemma – on one hand, wearing flats (like today, i’m wearing them) make me look less professional. with heels then i look more polished. maybe this is where we need to learn how to rotate? i think wedges are more comfortable than heels as well but they don’t look particularly professional either.
domncroxd recently posted..Quickie Review: Urban Decay NAKED
Wedges are slightly more comfortable but not in a long run if you stand and walk a lot, especially if the angle is lean then it causes pain to my heels also. I suppose people shouldn’t judge my professionalism by my shoes π

Actually I miss wearing my heels everyday! π I used to be able to wear my heels (fav was a 4in skyscraper from Guess) when I was driving as I don’t really do much walking. And I love coordinating my shoes with my outfits – my colleagues at my ex-co used to tease me as the office Imelda Marcos! π
But now in SG, even a mere 2 1/2 inch heel makes my feet ache at the end of the day and I’ve taken to schlepping to work in Crocs. Yes Crocs! But my Crocs are the heeled ones, not like FC’s infamous Crocs. π

wow 4″ heels! I have never tried anything more than 3″, not even for my own wedding. LOL. although now you can’t heel everyday but at least you had your glorious moments back in msia π btw, the heeled crocs look really funky, are they comfortable?
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
Yup, they’re really comfortable! It feels like walking on springy rubber. π

I vary the height of my heels. I used to be a 3″ or nothing but now with age catching up (ahem!) and realizing that my knees and back aren’t up to it, I’ve scaled back down. So I wear different heights on different days and flats on some days, so my feet, knees and back don’t die on me. A friend told me once about a lady who wore high heels all the time and her ligaments had shortened so even at 60 and at home, she cannot wear anything less than 3″ or she’d feel excruciating pain. They couldn’t operate either. Now THAT’s scary.

hey at least you had your 3″ or nothing years! when I used to wear heels and had to walk up and down stairs very often, i had terrible knee pain for quite some time =/
*gulp* your story is really…eye-opening. can’t imagine myself having to wear heels when im 60 or i die.

I do wear heels of varying heights but I try to limit it to once a week. ^.^ My mom, on the other hand, does not approve of me wearing heels so often. ahahaha.

Same as you, if I need to wear heels, I will wear flats and bring the heels with me and probably change inside the ladies’ room! π I walk fast and I like to walk! So I don’t like to put my feet and body to pain just to look beautiful π

i like to walk fast now too! and i will have to walk ‘elegantly’ if on heels :S
prettybeautiful recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
sigh…I had to leave all my heels behind when I came over to SG – I still wear them from time to time, but you remember the blood blisters from last week! >.< I'm typically limited to short outings now…or wear them when I'm back in KL!
yeah! i remember the blisters :S i’d never put my foot to go through that ordeal. LOL. i rather be ugly

Hi xin, This is the first time I’m commenting here.
This is an interesting topic! I have to wear heels to work, because flats are not ‘acceptable’ unless you’re pregnant or something. The company’s dress code is really literally To Die For. They say flats are not professional looking. Damn the financial industry.
Don’t you want to just throw something at their faces? High heels are a knee and back killer. But I have to admit, heels do make a huge difference in our overall presentation, no?
Lily recently posted..Pink in Love: Dior blush
Hi Lily! Bummer for your company! How can they limit the dress code to only ‘heels’? To me it is really ridiculous, your performance shouldn’t be judged by your heels or flats, though I agree that one looks really more professional when in heels in terms of presentations. thank god my company has no such rules, or i might have quit because of this reason

I don’t wear heels for years already, I always get very bad blisters and my leg hurts.
Like Nikki, if I had to wear heels, I’d bring a pair of slippers with me, otherwise, no heels for me please.
Sigh, want to be pretty but how to pay this kind of price leh?

prettybeautiful recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
I usually wear 2″ or 2.5″ to work and 3″ for sit-down dinners. I usually get my shoes from Aldos because I find their heels to be very solid and provide the right support for me. On Fridays, I’d normally wear flats to the office. I don’t wear strappy heels often as I prefer closed-toe shoes.
lyn recently posted..Sleek i-Divine Palettes with Oh So Special and Curacao
wow! u can walk in the 2.5″ daily? *bows* i have tried Aldos but I just can’t find a heel that match my foot shape. Most of the heels have curvature but my feet are flat π and because of my wide foot, i can’t wear closed-toes either, they will die inside
prettybeautiful recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
How awful! I love high heels but they can do so many damage when worn often and it’s just not worth it. So I usually wear flats and reserve heels for special occasions.
gio recently posted..Beauty Recipes From An 18th Century Cookery Book
long live flats! yes and the long term damage is unimaginable.
prettybeautiful recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
I don’t. I used to wear them daily when i was younger, but nowadays i think my feet has gotten so used to flats, they will protest 5 minutes into wearing them out! π
Still, i love my heels, and when I feel like it (aka if i wake up early enough to coordinate my outfits before work), i will wear them out! Hehehe! π
omg ^5! i am also very used to flats and i can’t wear heels anymore
prettybeautiful recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
I wear like 2 inches of heel when working but I don’t wear stilettos. I prefer wedges. But heels definitely give me backaches!
at least you are on 2″! Stilettos are so sexy, but also very inhumane
Haha, interestingly my current comp colleagues have also commented that I hardly wear heels. I can’t la, with our daily 10 minute walk to lunch and back, crossing busy roads and climbing stairs, wearing heels will kill my huge feet. The most I can do is wear heels in my carpeted office, and change back to flats when I go for lunch. :p
at least you managed to look elegant in the carpeted office π

I walk too much here to wear high heels. It’s sad really, ‘cos I do miss wearing heels, even a slight one. These days I’m living in flats, which is why I have to vamp them up as much as I can.

i wear flats everyday :(. even 1 inch heels kills me by midday. i walk around for most of my 9 hour shift. pain over beauty is just not feasible * double π *
it’s ok. ^5 and long live for flats!
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
I prefer to wear flat, but heels do makes me look slimmer I guess and I’m wear Clarks wedge like heels which is actually comfy and don’t feel like heels at all
heard so many good comments about Clarks, they are really comfy?
xin recently posted..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
Great write-up and it’s scary to know that one’s feet can conform to the shoe’s shape! When I’m out training I wear heels (small ones) and it’s painful enough cuz I have to stand for long hours. So when I’m in the office, I just wear flats. I’m choosing comfort over style!
is it compulsory to wear heels when you give training?
