Your say: Is Too Much Sleep Making You Tired?

by xin on September 26, 2011

Recently, I have been whining on twitter about how tired and sleepy I am despite my regularly-8-hour-sleep routine.

It’s strange to notice how my demand of sleeping hours has changed over the years.

P/S: My twitter account is @huixin, you can follow me if you are interested.

Sometimes when I have slept for too long, my husband would say:”What if one day it’s a pig that wakes up next to me?”

What a comment -_-”’

The Chronology of my sleeping patterns:

1. When I was still studying, I could easily sleep for 12 hours straight and the more the better!

2. When I started working, I no longer had the luxury of 12 hours sleep other than during the weekends.

3. As I got older, *cough*, which is the current, even the weekends I can no longer sleep even 9 hours sleep.

4. If I sleep for only 7 hours, I can wake up easily without snoozing my alarm 3x, and energetic for the entire day!

5. If I sleep for 8 hours or more, I will have problem getting out of bed and feeling groggy throughout the day.

Now your say: What is your optimum sleeping hours?

I think your 8 hour sleep routine is waking you in the middle of a deeper sleep phase, which is why you have problems getting out of bed and feel groggy? Just a thought – not medically certified as fact. πŸ˜›

it could be, which explains why the more i sleep the more tired i am. but again, some people only need 5 hrs of charging time πŸ˜› i sometimes try to sleep later so i can wake up with 7-hr sleep only πŸ˜€

I’ve been trying to pay back my sleep debt for the longest time – but haven’t been able to average more than 5-6 hrs of sleep a night. πŸ™ I reckon if I can hit 7 hours or so I should be ok. But I get what you mean about feeling groggy after too much sleep! πŸ˜›

I feel the same! I was told once (not sure if its true) that the more we get older, the lesser number of hours of sleep is needed. For adults or really older people (not us) lol 5-6 hours is enough πŸ™‚

i feel the same like you do! maybe it’s the age catching up? >.<

but on top of feeling groggy, i get backache if i sleep for more than 9-10 hours, and if that happens, it means i sleep too much. the grogginess doesn't bother so much though.

When I was studying I actually slept less. I could endure the nights! But now that I’m working, I feel tired earlier and over the weekends I tend to oversleep as if to catch up on lost sleep =.=

I cannot sleep too much…it makes me very tired. So I hate naps, I feel more tired than before. I find for me is sleeping at the right time like 10 – 11 and I can wake up at 5am or 6am without issues. If I sleep later, then yes, waking up is a chore. I think 7 – 8 hours is good for me.

i can take naps before 3pm. otherwise, the nite will be gone in frustration of trying to sleep. now i do not need to wake up before 7.30 most of the time, so i can afford to sleep slightly late πŸ˜€

I need a minimum of 8 hours or I’ll be a zombie so I have to sleep early like an aunty πŸ˜› I don’t nap either or I won’t be able to sleep at night. I guess 8 hours is my optimum. Too long and I feel tired too.
