Beauty Saloon Review: Remoisturizing Treatment at Mellisachens Skin Beauty Spa 1-Utama

by xin on September 28, 2011

Few days ago, I told you that I attended the launch & a workshop of a new skincare & beauty spa – melissachens, it was really great to meet a founder who is very enthusiastic about her profession. I was also provided with complimentary facial treatment.

The Location:

Conveniently located in the First Avenue in 1-Utama (which is the new old wing now if you wonder), it’s quite a spacious shop compared to most of the saloons.

The Environment:

Since it is a new shop, it is very clean and bright. The waiting lounge is huge too with all the products displayed on the shelves. Lockers, slippers and changing rooms are provided before you enter the treatment room. There are at least 3 facial treatment rooms and 1 body treatment room with bathroom attached.  However, the washroom did not smell too pleasant when I visited, twice. It smelt like something was leaking in the sewerage.

The Treatment Room:

The size of treatment rooms are just enough for 1 person to lie on the bed, and another to move around. Walls are quite thin and when I was there, there might be some technical problems with the speakers as the music was on and off. Hope it could be fixed soon as it was quite annoying to hear the peek-a-boo music -_-

The Service:

My facial started with a ‘relaxing touch’ starting from my feet. However, I prefer a foot bath or feet to be wiped clean prior to facial. Maybe it’s just me, I feel better knowing that my feet are clean ;)

Then, she proceeded to removing my makeup.  When the beautician wiped my right eye and realized that I had no make up on (!), then only proceeded to removing my lipstick. At least she realized it without cleaning my both eyes. Usually, the door of the treatment room is closed as soon as you enter, but strangely, the beautician just left the door open with the noise flowing in until I requested. It was an unusual practice to leave the door open with your customer lying in the room.

Cleansing was alright, and machine was used as final cleanse. It was a rotating sponge cleanser, but it is not like clarisonic, as I could feel the rotation of sponge on my skin. Then a soft peel was used for exfoliation instead of the usual grainy scrub. When all was done, I was left under the steam for another 5 minutes before extraction began.

One good point to note is, after each treatment that they leave on your face, the beauticians carry a timer with them so they can keep track of time, without leaving you with overdue treatment.

The extraction was done by another beautician, who I suppose was a senior staff. Her strokes were firm, quick and hard. Maybe it would be nice if she could check if I was in pain. Overall, it was good that the beautician did not attempt to strike a conversation so I was able to get some rest. As I have mentioned before, I always prefer a quiet session.

When the extraction was over, I was given a face massage and a layer of hydrating mask.  However, I felt that the hydrating mask was not hydrating enough for me. As when I got home, my skin felt taut, well, it could be due to over-cleansing since I was already using Clarisonic regularly. So I had to remedy that with another hydrating mask.

The Products:

They have quite a huge range of products targeting almost every single concern, from cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers to sunblocks and masks. Generally, I think the products are alright and most of them contain plant stem cells as the main ingredients. It’s quite a unique ingredient as up till now, I have never tried any skincare with stem cells.

Unfortunately, I have to say that the price of the products are on a higher end. For example, a Sensitive Skin Moisturizer is priced at RM288 for 35ml and the cleansers are over RM120. I would say the price tag is really high, especially if you are paying for a new brand that you have never tried.  All the products are made in Switzerland.

The Lockers & Changing Rooms

The Price of Facial Treatments:

They have quite an extensive selection of facials, even like facials for young adult acne, etc. Among the facials, the more affordable ones are such:

  • Sensitive Skin Stabilizing Treatment – RM158
  • Skin Purifying Treatment – RM148
  • Remoisturising Treatment – RM128

Plus Points:

  • I like it when the beautician is quiet and will leave me in peace.
  • Lockers are provided so you can keep your belongings, eg phone without disturbance throughout the facial.
  • Facial and shoulder massage are included.

Area of Improvement:

  • Fragrances could be placed in the washroom to ease the unpleasant smell.
  • A foot bath or cleaning customer’s feet prior to facial would be a nice touch to create a soothing and relaxing mood.
  • Beautician might want to check with customer on the pain tolerance DURING the extraction.
  • Always close the room door when you have a customer lying in the room.
  • Would be nice to have facial treatments menu with price at the door so customers will know what to expect :)

Will I recommend?

If you are in that area, and would like to support local entrepreneur, why not ? ;) However, since I had complimentary treatment for review, so I am not able to tell whether the sales is pushy or not. I certainly hope not.

Quoted from Melissa Chen:

“I strongly believe that for beautiful skin, the skin integrity is a core essential factor where we must focus on by protecting skin and preventing skin barrier damage due to common skin problems such as acne and sensitive skin triggering chronic inflammation of the skin that is further aggravated by environmental factors and our hectic lifestyle,”

 Price: Starting from RM120.

I started my facial treatments there for a few months and so far, it’s pretty ok. I totally agree with you in the high end pricing. I do understand the concept of stem cell and the superiority of it, but still…it won’t make me want to purchase the product :P

u have package with the giza outlet? and judging from your oil experiment, it is hard to splurge on high end price when you know you might be able to come up with something that might work as good right? ;)

Hmm I went to a facial at Aster Spring once and they didn’t close the door too until partway through and I don’t like that. To me, a facial is a very personal private thing. I don’t want to be lying exposed in the open to all and sundry which is why I am very very particular about the facial places I go to. I don’t think this one is on my list.
