Scent, is indeed a very subjective matter. What smells good to me could be smelling like a rotten dead animal to you. ( Not so extreme, but something to the effect)
In my sought of different combinations of oils with essential oils, I have learnt that most of the base oils have the nutty/seedy smell, and some are not even pleasant to start with.
One of the oils that I would like to share today is – Avocado oil.
For the uninitiated, here is a short intro for avocado oil:
Avocado oil is a high quality oil with outstanding regenerative properties. Full of vitamins A, B, D, E, protein, and lecithin. Highly emollient with anti-wrinkle, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidants have been shown to slow the aging process.
It is a natural oil, and is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids that will soften and revitalize rough, dry or aging skin.
For the unrefined (usually produced by cold-pressing/expelling) avocado oil, it is in dark green, and has a pungent nutty scent. It is thick and heavy looking, and definitely something that you will not be driven to use it.
However, for its chokeful of benefits, I had to brave myself to debunk the myth!
Surprise surprise! With just one application, I was impressed!
Despite the thickness, it is absorbed into the skin exceptionally well, and does not feel heavy, nor leave greasy residue at all!
Amazing. This is one of the examples of – not the best looking or smelling, but offers one of the best results.
Tips for choosing: I am not an expert to offer advice, but whenever possible, it is best to choose a ‘cold-pressed’ oil, it means that the oil is produced in a low-heat way, which supposedly can reduce the chances of degrading the nutritional values of the oil. Cold-pressed is usually slightly pricier.

Yup, Avocado Oil is my fave too! It sinks in increadibly well and leave you with a nice soft skin.
Agree with the smell totally. It’s rather pungent, mainly because it is CP and unrefined. It is a good indication that you are getting the ‘real’ one. Refined ones, which is cheaper, will have less nutty smell, and the colour will be ‘less green’ or pale yellow. That is why it’s great to mask the smell with some EO. And Neroli seemed to blend in well with it.:D

it goes well with neroli? i tried it with lavender, but it just doesn’t seem to click with anything else with the strong smell.
Off-topic : I love avocado juice! Yums! 😀
I don’t really go for oils as previous tries have left me with breakouts. But now I’m tempted to try again!
i love avocado juice when it is blended too! 😀 what oils broke you out? do u remember?

It depends on how well it works for my skin. If it gave me really amazing skin, then I guess I could put up with it.. I don’t think I’d like the smell of this oil but it’s good to know that at least it works really well.

I would use something that works as long as it does not stink too badly like rubbish…where did you buy this oil? interested to try it.

Actually I’m quite vain so if you tell me something is awesome despite the look and feel…I would still go for it!
u should try it if u have the chance 😀 well, in the name of beauty, i think most of us are willing to do everything!

I wouldn’t mind using something that doesn’t smell pleasant, if it’s good for my skin 😛 The most unpleasant smelling thing I’ve used so far is Argan Oil from Melvita. To be brutally honest, it smells to me as nutty as diarrhoea, the kind you get after food poisoning (Sorry!), or at least that’s how I’d describe it (I asked my boyfriend to sniff it and he agreed that it smelt like that to him too, so I’m probably not alone…). Too bad it doesn’t work on me, but if it does, I wouldn’t have minded keep using it.
Hmm avocado oil. Maybe I should give a try :O

All the time…as long as the smell isn’t rancid. In fact, I am now adverse to sweet smelling products! When I started Mukti’s cleanser, it smelt quite horrible to me but I grew to love it so much the smell no long irks me.
i still love sweet smelling stuff but i could get used to eeky smell in the name of beauty!

I CAN TAKE IT! Haha. I’m quite resolute when it involves vanity.
Living Nature has this rescue gel that used to smell so bad that I could use it to scare my cat and my brother! Really, the smell is just pungent, like the smell of overused yet unwashed panties (imagination working here). Haha! But I still used it because it was quite good in protecting bacterial pimples. But according to the distributor in Singapore, the formulation has changed and it doesn’t smell as bad as it used to anymore.
