Dior Jungle Collection for Fall – A Beautiful Crocodile Effect Top Coat

by xin on August 6, 2012

Crackle polish was a hit a while back…I was excited with my first Barry M crack but I got bored after a while with all the wood cracks. It’s nice but it soon became too mainstream.

Dior Crackle Duo

When I saw some reviews on the new crackle polish from Dior Fall collection – I was smitten by the beautiful crack.

It comes in a duo – with a gold lacquer.

In the collection, there is also a limited edition eye shadow palette.

Dior Gold Nail Lacquer

I only did away with a single layer of gold as base coat since it doesn’t really require intense color.

The formula is alright, and the shade is pretty average. But I believe with 2 coats, it’s beautiful on its own too.

However, the brush for this is not the short brush, it is the regular nail polish brush. It’s not a wide brush, hence it might get streaky if you don’t handle it well on the second coat.

Dior Crocodile Effect Top Coat Cracking

Now….the exciting part comes!

Just go on a layer of the top coat,  DO NOT overlay the top coat or the effect will not show.

The bummer is – it’s taking a while for the polish to crack. And for a moment I thought it was not going to crack at all. It takes about >10 seconds for it to start cracking.

As you can see, I have applied on all the nails but only one completed cracking.

Nonetheless, the result is beautiful!

It looks more like a tortoise shell to me. And I notice that if you go on a thinner layer of top coat, you will create more cracks too.

The tips started to wear off after 4 days and it’s still not very visible thanks to the design.

Overall, I am quite liking the crack and I will be experimenting with a few other base colors to see how it turns out :)

Good news is – this duo only retails at RM95 for 2, and the normal polish is RM70.

Are you a fan of cracks?

I thought you showed the semi cracked effect in the 4th picture on purpose. Nice shot!

AHHH I love that you were able to capture a shot mid-crackle! I never got on the crackle trend, but it’s cool that this one has a more tortoiseshell look as you said, instead of the regular linear crackle.
