How I survived months without facial and feeling better than ever + December skincare routine

by xin on December 12, 2012

Phew! That was a long title.

About a year ago, I posted my skincare routine in November 2011 , and I was absolutely stunned when I re-read the post, and the number of products I used!

Ever since I decided that I had enough of extraction during facial, I have stopped facial for a good couple of months. Initially my skin had a roller coaster ride, but it’s well under control now ;)

Skin Dec 2012

My current skin condition, with nothing other than night routine: other than the monthly breakouts and blackheads, it’s generally smooth.

As compared to the old days with monthly (or twice) facial, my face had a lot more tiny bumps then!

However, I do indulge in picking the blackheads and the occasional whitehead bumps, but have not noticed any marks left behind..thank goodness!

Lo..and behold and be surprised at what I use!

Skincare Dec 2012

Left to right: Hada Labo ES Toner, Dior One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum, Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil, Kose Sunblock SPF50++

My current skincare routine…day and night! (eye cream forgotten in the picture)

I use practically the same thing for day and night, except for the Kose sunblock for day.

I think Dior One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum has totally revamped my skin, I have been using different facial oils for more than a year and I do believe that they moisturize skin better, and they seem to help combat fine lines better too.

At this stage of life, I am thinking that maybe the less is more for my skin…but it’s subjected to change of course ;)

Are you a less is more or more is more person?

I agree on less is more, now that I’m preggy and has been using less products on my skin, it seems like my skin looks the same or even better (well probably from all the rest as well) :) I’m not into facials as I’ve had some bad experience on it!

Your skin is improved and I guess keeping it simple has helped :-) I go for facials only once or twice a year because I don’t actually enjoy the process. My skin is rather sensitive and will be red for days (sometimes weeks) after a session.

Clarins is expensive!!! I’ll never sign up for such expensive packages. My facial package is only $80 per session and the gua sha for my eyes is $30. I used to sign up a package – getting rid of facial hair. I have some on my upper lip. They use IPL and it’s $28 per session I believe. I see results and I like it! I’ve been with my beautician for close to 4 years. ^^

I haven”t gone for facial like a good six months or more and I think my skin is fine. Facials are great for pampering and maintenance but if our daily skincare routines are good, we can still survive well.

I go for facials on a weekly basis and I’ve been doing it for the past couple of years! Yes, extractions will definitely be full of pain. However, I do like seeing a clearer and cleaner face after all the pain. Besides, facials are a form of pampering to myself and so I like it. Extractions only take up a portion of the entire process so it’s still good for me.
My facial usually starts with double cleansing of my face-extraction-some kind of glass ball used to roll over my face to calm the skin down. It’s very cooling.
Thereafter, removal of my upper lip hair through IPL, gua sha for my eyes (this is very relaxing I assure you) and then mask!
I hope this put a more positive note on facials for you guys out there… ^^

on weekly basis?! :O that’s really frequent. ah i have had those metal/glass ball massage before too, im guessing the aircon in the facial room doubles the coolness. ;) gua sha for eyes is definitely unheard of – wouldnt it hurt?

Gua Sha for the eyes initially is painful as area around the eye is usually congested with toxins. When they go around my eyes with it, it hurts but after a few sessions, it’s smooth and that’s why you can relax and enjoy. I do realise that the skin around my eyes are brighter after gua sha. I believe in such stuff – getting rid of toxins in your body. I do have eye cream, one from Estee Lauder. Very expensive but I don’t see much effects so yay to gua sha and nay to eye creams. Having said that, my beautician said that like it or not, one cannot forsake eye cream. She said that it’s better than nothing.
