Monday Life Saving Tip – Removing Super Glue off Skin with Avocado and Jojoba Oil

by xin on December 26, 2011

Hi all, post Merry Christmas! 😀

I have spent the holidays working on my polymer clay, it’s tiring but very satisfying 😉 Had some ideas for it and can’t wait to share it out 😀

While I was in the midst of sticking stuff together in the middle of the night, a nightmare had to happen on a Christmas day!

I STUCK 6 OF MY FINGERS WITH SUPER GLUE!

SmileyShocked
I looked worse than the emoticon.

It was horrible, and even my nails were not spare.

I googled for tips, have tried soaking in warm soap water, and cleaning with nail polish remover (acetone) but none worked.

Out of desperation, I reached out for the body oils that I use for my own experiment. Pour the oils generously on both palms and rub. I find that avocado oil works better because it has thicker consistency.

…After rubbing and peeling for a whole hour, I was finally relieved that my skin was saved! May try olive oil or cooking oil if you don’t have a thick avocado oil.

*Phew*

Presentable skin once again.

Not ALL was removed, but 80% is gone and it’s amazing what Avocado and Jojoba oil have done to save my life!

Benefits of using body/culinary oils:

1. Absolutely safe
2. Effective
3. Non-abrasive
4. Moisturizing

There you go, do share the tips if you happen to know anyone is also traumatized by super glue!

Ouch, it looks painful! thank God you were saved with Jojoba and Avocado oil!

P.S. thanks for taking the time to make my pendant and earrings, I’ve used them consistently 🙂 I have a feeling I’ll still wear Mr. Snowman earrings even after the holidays, he’s too cute!

I hate getting my fingers stuck together! Superglue always feels like it’s never coming off until it finally does… I’m glad yours came off easily. I’ll try this with olive/jojoba oil in case it happens to me! Thanks for the tip 🙂

Holy moly!! How lucky that you found such a fast solution–but what were you trying to do with the polymer clay? Do you have to use your bare hands for it?

Thanks for sharing this solution–good to know the next time I get in trouble with super glue.

I wonder if coconut oil would work! Totally reminds me of when I need a makeup remover in Thailand! I must say, coconut oil works perfectly to dissolve makeup, it’s like a dream, better than olive oil.

omg super glue! I used to be obsessed with glueing my fingers with super glue and trying to chip the glue off slowly. I know, creepy. Haha.

Anyway, I haven’t had an super glue related incident for about 10 years now ’cause I’ve stopped doing DIY crafts.
