Nail Art Tutorial: Color-Blocking with a-england Order of Garter and Bridal Veil

by xin on February 21, 2012

Ever since I landed my hands on Galahad, I knew I had to get a second color, or more! It’s quite an exaggerating way of putting it, but I did!

From The Legend collection, here’s the 2 I picked up: Order of Garter and Bridal Veil. Just because I am so excited to have both colors on all my nails, so today I will show you a simple tutorial of color-blocking nail art.

Order of Garter

Apply base coat, let dry and select a color of your choice.  It’s easier to work with if you have the lighter shade as the base and just top the darker shade later.

Order of Garter is a bright midnight-blue with shimmer, it’s very sheer with first layer, but with second coating, it is almost opaque. The sheerness of first coat might frustrate you, but trust me, when the second coat is on, you will be blown away. I am totally liking this shade of blue, it is elegant, yet casual, and it will compliment every skin color.  🙂

Oh Bridal Veil!

Using a darker polish, preferably black, draw a diagonal line across your nail and fill in the remaining space. It’s okay if the line is jagged because we can cheat our way out later 😉

I am totally in love with this shimmer and holo black! It’s butter smooth, and all it takes is one layer, even on top on a blue base coat! However, with butter-thick formula, I am worrying that the polish will turn gooey after a while. I guess we can just wait and see.

I was having a deja vu moment as if I have seen the color before, true enough, Bridal Veil is quite similar to Color Club Revvvolution (it’s a charcoal grey instead of black).

Now, for the remaining of your nails, you can exercise your creativity to create some lines or more blocks.

With a blue base, I feel that it’s not doing Bridal Veil enough justice to show the beauty of it. I will show you another time later 😉

For the last step, with a glitter silver polish, trace the ‘black separator’ carefully.

Let the glitter polish to dry completely before proceeding with a top coat, otherwise the glitter will run.

There you go, in less than 30mins, you will have sophisticated and gorgeous nail art 😉

Have you gotten your hands on a-england? If so, what’s your favorite shade?

Actually Galahad and Order of the Garter are the 2 polishes I dislike from A-England. They were streaky and awful to apply for me. I cleaned off Order of the Garter twice in one night and in desperation went for Bridal Veil. 2 coats and it was perfect. Blue nails and I are not meant to be.
