Ever since I am haunted by hair fall, I have tried various shampoo and serums out of desperation.
Honestly, I have yet to find a shampoo that helps to control the oily scalp, despite the fact that I shampoo twice a day. Oh before you say it, I tried not to wash my hair daily too, trust me, it was just worse. I have been using hair growth and deep cleansing shampoo, but due the the hair growth ingredients, along the way the shampoos somehow have made my scalp sensitive and itch easily, quite a horror really.
Until recently, a friend initiated a shopping spree and I decided to get a J.R. Liggett’s Old Fashioned Bar Shampoo to try out. It has earned a great number of positive reviews, and being at less than USD$5, there was almost no risk.
I was quite excited & looking forward to testing the bar shampoo as the whole packaging looked really old-school, and all the ingredients listed are in English! YEAY!
It’s quite a large bar of shampoo with no fragrance at all. The first time use felt funny to me as I am so used to seeing bubbles in my shampoo while this bar shampoo doesn’t foam up but the lather is enough to cleanse your hair and scalp.
From the website:
Tea Tree Oil has powerful antiseptic & anti-bacterial properties that enhance our shampoo’s abilities to effectively tame dermatitis, itchy-flaky-scalp conditions, and may also stimulate hair growth. Hemp Oil contains a combination of essential fatty acids that supply your hair’s acute nutritional needs. Almond Oil provides the important moisturizing healthy hair requires.
Long story short, I will tell you my thoughts of this bar shampoo after using it for about 3 weeks:
1. The first time use felt funny to me as I am so used to seeing lather and bubbles in my shampoo while this bar shampoo doesn’t foam up but the lather is enough to cleanse your hair and scalp.
2. My hair felt dry with the first few uses, but eventually my hair got used to it and it actually felt moisturized even without leave in conditioner.
3. On a short break of holiday, I had no access to my bar shampoo, and I noticed that using X brand of shampoo only just 2 days made my scalp really itchy with tinge of burning sensation. I did not think much about it, and came home to use my bar shampoo. Then only it hit me that it could be one of the chemicals in the shampoo! After washing hair with bar shampoo, the itch is gone and my scalp felt clean and nice.
4. It’s easier to rinse and no residue left on hair.
5. I love it!
Well, I did not expect to see miracle hair growth, but I am hoping that with the reduced use of chemicals, my hair might stay on longer ;) There are a few more flavors available, which I will be placing order for another 1 or 2 pc for long term use. But again, we all hair different hair/scalp conditions, so one man’s meat can be another man’s poison. If you have found a good shampoo for yourself, good on ya and stick to it!
